How Bubble Baths Can Improve Your Health and Well-Being

Last year was a long one. Yes, it may have only been 366 days (leap year), but it seemed to drag on foreverrrrrrr. One full week into January, we are all starting to feel that post-holiday stress settle in. Thank goodness for National Bubble Bath Day! Yes, it's a silly "holiday" (if you even want to call it that), but soaking in a tub may be one of the most relaxing ways you can reduce stress and boost your mental and even physical health.

While the bubble bath observance was inspired by the more than half century old brand of Mr. Bubble, the therapeutic benefits of soaking in a nice warm bath have been recognized for thousands of years. Baths are great for soaking tired muscles; can help treat dry, winter skin; and some studies show they can even help heal wounds - but you should always consult your physician first. Relaxing in a tub can also help lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and NueroWellness Doctor Claudia Aguirre says bathing can have positive effects on everything from blood sugar and metabolism to sleep quality and work efficiency. Plus, having a little time to ourselves can be just what we need to recharge, and improve our mental outlook.

"Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes. Including you." - Anne Lamont

When we take a bath it raises our body temperature, which can make us nice and sleepy before bed. Add a little aromatherapy to your experience like a few drops of calming lavendar oil and odds are you will be drifting away to dreamland in no time. The more productive our deep sleep cycles are, the more well-rested we'll be the next day, which will lead to better productivity in almost everything we do, no matter the task is at hand.

We know baths aren't always the easiest to squeeze in with our busy schedules, but if you're looking to do a little self-care this weekend, you can always pick up your own bottle of Mr. Bubble here or you can check out some of these quick DIY bath soak recipes (always use caution and consult your doctor if you think you may have any allergies to any listed ingredients). A twenty-minute soak could do wonders for your mind, body, and soul. So, what are you waiting for? Use this year's National Bubble Bath Day to celebrate ... you!
