National Trail Mix Day - August 31, 2020

Typically seen when you are out hiking, camping, or enjoying the outdoors - this delicious camping snack, usually consisting of nuts, dried fruit, and grains - is a boost of carbohydrates when the body needs it the most. There is no real telling of who first came up with the concept of Trail Mix, but two California surfers claim to have created it in 1968, when they blended peanuts and raisins together for an energy snack. Although, Jack Kerouac’s book The Dharma Bums from 1958 also mentions this tasty treat when the two main characters are planning meals for their hiking trip. No matter who came up with the idea of trail mix, it is now an integral piece of planning your outdoor adventures and is loved for several well known qualities - it's portable, packed with protein and salty and sweet.
